Style: Second Empire

Second Empire style is distinguished from the other Victorian architectural styles by the presence of the Mansard roof, a very steeply sloped roof that can be concave, convex, straight, or even S-shaped. The Mansard roof-line usually surrounds the house at the highest level, and more often than not, dormer windows protrude from the Mansard roof. . The Second Empire architectural style was used not only on houses in this era, but also on many brownstones, office and government buildings.
