PTL 6.2 Evaluate Plans

Goal:

• Examine the project information and determine what resources are available to support the project.

Outline:

PTL 6.0 Project Evaluation
          6.1 Get Plans

          6.2 Evaluate Plans
          6.3 Plan Follow-Up

Details:

Intent:
To determine whether the plant will go forward in the bidding process or whether we will withdraw.

Benefit:
Benefit on not expelling resources on a project we don’t expect or don’t want to be awarded.

Examples:
A customer calls in and asks for us to make an entry; the project will take 64 molds, tie up one person in drafting for 12 days, and our plant will have to produce 85 stones total. This would not be a type of project that would fit into production because of the high backlogs in the drafting and molding. In this case we would decline to even bid the project because we wouldn’t have the available resources to sell it if we were awarded the job.

Definition
Estimate the resources it would take, the value it is to our company, and the time frame that the customer is likely to need it in. Not what he tells us but what is the realistic date he is likely to need it in.
